The Career Centre of the University of Novo Mesto Faculty of Business and Management Sciences was founded for the purpose of providing quality information to prospective students, and to provide support to students and graduates in planning their careers and professional paths, and in deciding on further education. The work of the Career Centre realises the Faculty's vision, which aims to provide its students with education of the highest quality possible, and to ensure that its graduates are competitive in the labour market. By providing quality information to students, it contributes to their personal development, broadens their horizons, prepares them for active participation in the corporate world and to take on new challenges; all of that, combined with the knowledge gained and their life experiences, represents sought-after labour skills. We believe that by training students and graduates, we help them to improve the planning of their own career or professional path, to gain their first work experience, and to integrate the Faculty with the business environment more closely.

VISION
The Career Centre connects students with organisations in the business environment in Slovenia and abroad as they are studying, in order for them to plan and shape their careers.

MISSION
The Career Centre's mission is to ensure quality study and career development of students and graduates, and to promote cooperation with Slovenian and foreign employers.
The Career Centre encourages students to take responsibility for their career development. It provides students with opportunities to plan their careers; define their career goals; gain experience; identify and shape their personal and professional values; develop skills and professional competencies. It enables organisations to recognise suitably qualified staff while they are still studying, and to become involved in their development. The Career Centre is the link between students and the economic and other environments.

MAIN GOALS
To realise its mission, the Career Centre has set the following main goals:

• encourage students to perform activities that enable the development of intellectual, study and scholarly potential;
• advise students on career development as an integrated and lifelong decision-making process at the personal, professional and academic level;
• create a supportive, safe, responsive and authentic environment that encourages students to discover career-development opportunities based on the individual's interests, abilities and values;
• recognise, assess and promote students' career opportunities by providing relevant information, human resources and technical support;
• strive for excellence, innovativeness, professionalism, ethical conduct, work progress and progress in the attitude towards students and organisations;
• establish and maintain good business contacts and relationships with organisations and their human resources departments.

CAREER CENTRE SERVICES

Its services comprise the following important activity units:

• study-related and career counselling for prospective students, current students and graduates (one-on-one and in groups);
• organising educational programmes that guide the employment potential of students and graduates;
• analytical monitoring of employment opportunities and of the employability of graduates;
• human resources counselling and intervention;
• integrating the academic and economic environments;
• promoting lifelong learning.

Possible ways of implementing services:

• workshops, classes (tutorials, case-based work);
• seminars (specific career-development contents);
• round tables (discussions of specific topical issues);
• lectures (topical contents);
• counselling (one-on-one, group);
• tutoring;
• research and analytical monitoring of employment opportunities.

Quality will be assured through:

• accessibility;

• constant monitoring of the situation in the labour market;
• encouraging young people to plan their careers and acquire competencies early on;
• optimising the potential of a student and graduate;
• ensuring the academic and career development of students, graduates and academic staff.

WORK OF THE CAREER CENTRE

The Career Centre will provide students with the possibility of one-on-one and group counselling. Counselling will be performed during office hours. The purpose of the Career Centre's office hours is to provide information; to assist with searching for information; to give advice on the use of current sources related to career development, to learning about one's personality traits, to gaining work experience, to finding employment and to job interviews.

All members of the Career Centre are informed of all events by email and through the Career Centre's website.

Each year, the Career Centre organises or co-organises workshops, classes, seminars, lectures and other forms of educational programmes, which help students to overcome barriers in their studies and to find employment.

Most educational and training programmes are free of charge for students. Students can register for an educational programme only through the web portal.
